On Wednesday, Dr. Christopher Tufton, the Minister of Health & Wellness, MOHW, conducted a tour of the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the repurposed facilities that will soon be transformed to make way for the construction of a new six-story facility, with the groundbreaking scheduled to commence in just two months. Notably, an investment has also been made in a state-of-the-art laboratory testing machine. The construction project, valued at around 300 million, is anticipated to significantly enhance the range of services provided by the hospital.
With the hospital currently serving more than five thousand patients on a monthly basis, Dr. Tufton highlighted that this transition could bring about several potential side effects, spanning from noise disturbances to air pollution. He also took the opportunity to note that the Cornwall Regional Hospital is in the final stages of completion, further underlining the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.
