St. Thomas Quarantine: Two Communities (Albion & Seaforth) added – As the number of COVID-19 cases surges in Jamaica, communities are being put under surveillance in an effort to eliminate community spread.
In St. Thomas, the communities of Albion and Seaforth are now added to the list of quarantine zones across the country, this after 13 cases were recorded over the last three weeks.
The quarantine period, which began at 5:00 am today, will run for 14 days, ending September 2.
On Wednesday, Jamaica recorded a record high of 46 new Coronavirus, COVID-19 cases.
Nineteen of which are from the backlog for the period July 5-18 and 27 are recent samples submitted from surveillance being done across the country.
Of the 46 cases, 13 are of addresses in kingston and St. Andrew followed by eight in st. Thomas.
With the continued increase in cases in St. Thomas, the communities of Albion and Seaforth have been added to the quarantine zones in the parish – St Thomas Quarantine.
The other communities in the parish under quarantine are bamboo river, church corner and lower summit.
All measures will end on September 2. Some 107 persons have been identified as being positive for covid-19 in the parish.
Forty-five of that number are within the quarantine areas.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) suggests that there may be ongoing transmission in the communities.
In addition, a list of communities within the corporate area are under surveillance.
The MOHW is reminding members of the public to adhere to prescribed covid-19 prevention and control measures.
