Area One Police Crackdown on Crime in Western Jamaica

Area One Police have strengthened their operations in the parishes of Trelawny, Hanover, St. James, and Westmoreland. Several illegal firearms have been seized, and suspects have been taken into custody by the Area One Special Squad.

Two men were taken into custody in connection with the seizure of an illegal firearm and six live rounds of ammunition in Canaan District, St. James, on Tuesday, August 13.

Additionally, forty rounds of ammunition were seized at Barracks Road in Savanna-la-Mar on the same day. Despite still leading in murders across the division, St. James recorded 85 murders up to August 14, compared to 128 murders during the same period last year. Westmoreland, Hanover, and Trelawny have also seen a decline in murders in August compared to the same period in 2023.
