Memories of the life of Bancroft “Banky” Gordon, continue to be shared after the former national footballer and attorney-at-law, passed away in his sleep, on Tuesday, July 18, while visiting Jamaica. Gordon had served for several decades as mentor to aspiring scholar-athletes from Jamaica in his adopted home of Maryland. And over the years, has quietly supported various causes that target under-served youth on the island.
A beloved pillar of the Jamaican Diaspora has died, Banky passed peacefully in his sleep on in Kingston, Jamaica. He was an inspiration to many through his love of sports and his passion for Jamaica, the 66-year-old is remembered by many for his professional achievements as a former attorney at law and a past corporate secretary and assistant general council of Marriott International.
A resident of Maryland for 40 years, his was a journey that saw him begin his formal education at the Excelsior High School, before gaining a scholarship to attend Howard University. It was there that the former Jamaica National Footballer opened a pathway to fellow Jamaicans that has remained open until this day.
