With the new year just a few days away, the Seaforth community in St. Thomas will enter 2023 in mourning following the shooting death of 30-year-old Tiyana Ewart otherwise called ‘Tookie’ Thursday evening.
According to police reports she had just reached home from work when she was approached by a man armed with a firearm. A tussle ensued during which the suspect opened fire hitting her. The police were summoned by family members and the body of the now deceased was seen lying face down in a pool of blood with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. She was later pronounced dead at the Princess Margaret hospital.
In the meantime, People’s National Party Councilor Candidate for the Seaforth Division Leroy Passley says Tiyana’s murder marks the third death of a female from the area. He is also calling on the Member of Parliament to intervene in the crime situation plaguing the community. Since the start of 2022, St Thomas has recorded 40 murders, 16 of which occurred in the Seaforth Division.
