Barbados: Catalyst for More Republics in the Caribbean

Barbados is the fourth nation in the Caribbean to become a republic, questions are being raised regarding the impact this move may have on other nations in the region.

Barbados becoming a parliamentary republic has been a symbolic move for the nation as they break from the British ruling. Speaking with CVM LIVE Tuesday, journalist and native, Kobie Broomes says though the nation has taken this new position, diplomatic relations with neighbouring Caribbean nations will remain.

Kobie Broomes, Journalist, Barbados Today notes the only change that may arise is for other Caribbean nations to follow suit.

However, lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Mona Dr. K’adamawe Knife says though relations between the Bajans will not differ, Jamaica has not always been successful with regional integration.
