The Rural Development Programme, which is aimed at bringing new life to rural communities across the island has confirmed that the community of Banks in Clarendon, which has languished in disrepair since the passage of hurricane dean, will be one of the next communities to benefit from hundreds of millions of dollars in upgrades.
Banks, once a prominent fishing village in South-West Clarendon, it destroyed by Hurricane Dean in 2007. Since then, residents here have been in dire need of support to improve the poor infrastructure mainly roads, water supply, and electricity. They are also demanding better policing. Their cries were heard by the Local Government Minister who saw other needs, including proper housing. Minister Desmond McKenzie allocated six indigent houses for residents there recently.
Minister McKenzie says the implementation of the programme will be beneficial to the residents and will only focus on the rural areas of Clarendon that are in need of urgent attention. The local Government Minister will be working with Member of Parliament Lothan Cousins to ensure that the programme runs smoothly. Watch the report:
