Three murders in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland Saturday, November 13, have evoked a strong call for more police resources and social intervention from Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central, George Wright.
It was a bloody Saturday morning in Savanna-la-Mar after gunmen unleashed their wrath on three people; the first instance being a double murder.
According to police reports, the double murder took place around 7:30 am on Ricketts Street with a 41-year-old promoter and artiste, Akiem Bradbury popularly known as ‘Paparratzi’ being the first victim.
He was reportedly driving in the area when he was pounced upon by gunmen, after which he exited his vehicle. According to the police, he was chased and shot dead.
The gunmen then reportedly moved on to their next victim 30-year-old Andrika Smith at her home also on Ricketts Street; almost an hour later, police say 38-year-old Dwayne Fong also known as Oki Don was murdered at his gate on Dalling Street while in his van.
When CVM Live spoke with Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central George Wright on November 13, he expressed his disappointment with the crime and violence in the parish.
While not being able to provide full details on the latest murders, he mentioned communities being at odds. The MP believes more job opportunities and social intervention will help eliminate some of the criminal activities in the constituency.
He is also banking on more resources to allow for better policing, especially in troubled communities.
