The body of nine-year-old, Kyle Richards, who was washed away by floodwaters on Wednesday has been discovered. The body was recovered Sunday morning by residents searching along the Hope River in Harbour View, St Andrew.
The young boy’s body was found in a state of decomposition. Forensic investigators were quick on the scene and his body was processed before it was removed by residents.
It is reported that he had been carried away by waters after he fell in a drain on his way from school. Residents have been searching from Wednesday for his body but had visibility issues. The Municipal Corporation provided support and residents continued to make checks along the gully, however, on Thursday the search had been called due to rain.
The Mayor of Kingston along with other representatives visited the family’s home after the news of Kyle Richards’ body being found circulated.
Family members say they are happy that he has been found and are grateful for the assistance provided by the community. One of Kyle Richards’ aunt, Nadine Hall disclosed that the tragedy had brought a period of unity in the community.
One of the grandmothers of Kyle says the mother has not cried since the incident. She is still trying to cope with the loss of her son.
