BOJ to Test Digital Currency in August

Speaking at the Virtual Installation Ceremony of Kecia Taylor, 2021-2022 recently, Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) Governor, Richard Byles, has given an updated timetable for the roll out of the Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC, a digital currency which is a legal tender, usable only in Jamaica.

At least five international entities will be watching the local roll out of the currency including the Federal Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

The digital currency will be a complement to bank notes and coins which will continue to be issued by the BOJ.
