Breaching of the Disaster Risk Management Act Continues

Breaching continues: Despite persistent pleas from the Government, some members of the public refuse to adhere to the COVID-19 measures.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit for the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), a total of 23 persons have been arrested and charged for breaches of the Disaster Risk Management Act following two separate incidents in Seaview Gardens, Kingston 11 yesterday. However, that’s just one of the issues the country is still faced with.

The prohibition on parties and other entertainment events continues until October 6, 2020

However, the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU)  has reported that after the start of the nightly curfew on Wednesday, over 200 patrons were at a party in Seaview Gardens.

Several police officers who went to the area to shut down the event were attacked with stones. The promoter and nine others have been charged for breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act.

Thirteen more persons have been arrested and charged in relation to another incident in Seaview Gardens.

Reports are that about 10:30 p.m., lawmen were on an operation in the area when patrons were seen at a party on the premises. They were instructed to go home which they did, however, the police later returned to the location at approximately 11:30 p.m., and observed that the patrons had returned.

Head of CCU, Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay says it is becoming harder to get citizens to comply with the rules. The wearing of masks also remains an issue. One individual who isn’t the least bit perturbed by the virus, believes it is completely unnecessary.

But , Opposition Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Morais Guy has called for legislations to ensure mask wearing is the order of the day.

He says, even persons with respiratory conditions can wear a mask that is appropriately designed for them.
