Steps are to be taken to prevent another tragedy at the Bridgeport Primary School in Portmore, St Catherine. This, after two children including a now deceased eight-year-old boy were hit by a vehicle outside the school, recently. South East St. Catherine Member of Parliament, Robert Miller says professionals will be hired to assist the students in crossing the main road.
He also assures proper fencing will soon be erected in the space. A tragic situation now seems to be the inducement for heightened security and safety measures at the Bridgeport Primary School. The incident, an eight-year-old boy, Dilshan McLean hit by a Toyota Hiace truck outside the school compound on April 1, and later died while undergoing treatment.
The news has sent shock waves throughout the school and community, as persons try to understand the unfortunate circumstances that led to McLean being hit. Subsequently, Robert Miller is seemingly leaving no stones unturned
As he says the tragedy has been an eye-opener for himself, members of the school and other stakeholders. Miller says measures will also be implemented to ensure the safety of students, including when crossing roads. He is also sending a message to motorists. Meanwhile, he’s urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist the police. Another student was also hit; however she remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.
