The Government has been receiving much criticism from the opposition since the imposed States of Emergency, (SOEs) in sections of the western region and the corporate area this past Sunday, November 14.
Opposition Spokesperson on National Security, Peter Bunting raised several concerns regarding the Government’s expenditures on SOEs while noting the dissatisfaction among members in the security force.
He was speaking at the People’s National Party’s, (PNP) state of the nation media briefing earlier this week.
Speaking at the office of the Opposition Leader recently the Opposition Spokesperson on National Security called out the Andrew Holness led administration’s failure to reduce violent crime, he suggests that the States of Emergency have not proven efficient.
Mr. Bunting also accused the Government of implementing SOEs as a means of distraction. He also points out the members of the security forces suffered financially amid the SOEs.
Bunting also raised questions about the impact of increased spending on National Security. He further adds that the capital expenditures of the Jamaica Defence Force, (JDF) shows that they were allocated twice the capital budget of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, (JCF) and six times the budget of the Education Ministry. Mr. Bunting says the Government needs to prioritize other issues.
