“No exchange, no refund!” A reminder to consumers that business operators intend for all sales to be final, regardless of the customer’s reason for return.
Referencing the Consumer Affairs Act, Communication Strategist at the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC), Dorothy Campbell, says if it is found that the rights of the consumer have been breached, then that sign becomes null and void. She notes the sign is a residual effect of the pandemic, as businesses only seek to limit items being returned.
Since it is not illegal for vendors to brandish these signs through their windows, she is urging consumers to be mindful of the businesses they support, and take note of these signs before supporting said businesses. She is also urging consumers to have their receipts ready and to file a complaint if needs be.
Additionally, complaints can be filed using the CAC app, which is available for download on apple and android devices. During the financial period from April to November, the CAC recouped just under 32 million dollars in refund and compensation on behalf of consumers.
