Ceasefire In Payneland, South West St. Andrew

There are reports of a ceasefire in sections of the South West St Andrew community of Payneland. This follows tension earlier this year when a reported Area Leader was killed; residents in Payneland, St. Andrew are hoping that a ceasefire will last for a long time in the area.

The agreement by warring factions to stop their gun battles means a period of calm. Councillor for the Payneland Division, Audrey Smith Facey says the ceasefire is due to talks held with residents.

She also stated that there has been a newly constructed park, which was opened to the public on Sunday. She along with residents believe that the park will transform the face of the community.

The area has been plagued by violence for years. To add, the Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang noted that the St Andrew South Police Division accounted for a percentage of gangs operating in the country. Payneland falls under that division.
