Citizens concerned about checkpoint placement in Spanish Town giving way to criminals – Checkpoints guarded by law enforcers can be a comfort to some citizens and a deterrent for others. Spanish town has two routes that cater to either group.
Our reporter Paige Dixon seeks to find the answers to these questionable checkpoint placements; The absence of a checkpoint is seen as a loophole by many motorists who traverse the roads in and out of Spanish Town. It is also known that this route is more common for transport operators who are within breach of the laws as a means to avoid police interaction.
Senior Superintendent of Police Steve Brown who is one of the personnel in charge of assigning checkpoint bases says the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is deliberate in their reason for having only one checkpoint.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force says their strategy is accomplishing their aim and objective and they are pleased with their results so far. Security expert Bobby Finzi Smith believes the constabulary force has a good strategy and says even if there was a permanent checkpoint people would still find ways to avoid passing by.
The security expert says there are many strategies that a law enforcer can use to accomplish a specific goal and the strength of these strategies cannot be measured solely by a physical presence – Checkpoint Placement.
