On the heels of another domestic dispute in May Pen, Clarendon, which ended in the tragic loss of a family member, police officials are calling for greater focus on these issues. The 16-year-old girl, now charged with murder following the stabbing death of her brother in hazard drive in the parish on August 5, much concern has swept across the community.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Owen Brown says the domestic violence cases in Clarendon have dramatically contributed to the parish’s crime statistics. Adding to this, he says there are other supportive avenues that the police have installed to target domestic violence cases. Brown says the police constabulary force in the area has been battling domestic violence cases, and the domestic violence center was established to thwart the crime rate in the parish. He hopes to continue educating family members who are struggling, or living in fear, to speak up.
On Friday the teenage girl allegedly used an object to inflict a wound on her brother after they had a dispute. Since being charged for his murder, she appeared in court on Monday and is expected to return on Thursday. Watch the report below:
