To date nearly 3,000 children have been infected with COVID-19, this from Chief Medical Officer, (CMO) Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-Mckenzie. She gave the update at the weekly COVID-19 media briefing on Thursday, September 30. The CMO notes the number of children infected since the pandemic saw slight increases during the different waves of the pandemic.
Speaking at Thursday’s COVID-19 media briefing, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasar-Mckenzie provided a breakdown of the number of children infected with COVID-19. The CMO notes 35.2 percent of cases recorded are among children ages 6 to 12. She noted that in the adolescents age group 34.1 percent have been reported to have been infected, and noted that the larger amount of infected cases that have been reported is technically in the 6-17 age group.
She says some of the children in these age groups who had passed from the virus had underlying health complications. The CMO noted that except for two of the total children COVID-19 deaths, all the children had comorbidities that would have made them more prone to a severe illness. In the meantime, Dr. Bisasar-Mckenzie says 2,986 children have so far been hospitalized due to the virus.
