CMO Says COVID-19 10,000 Mark Expected

COVID-19 10,000 mark expected: Jamaica has now recorded over ten thousand (10, 000) cases of COVID-19.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-Mckenzie says, this was predictable, given cases were still being recorded on a daily basis.

She says it is important that the country contains the spread of the virus.

On March 10, Jamaica recorded its first case of COVID-19. Two hundred and fifty-five (255) days later, the country has 10,151 confirmed cases of the virus. But according to the CMO, The Health Ministry hasn’t been viewing the ten thousand (10,000) mark as a milestone or hurdle in any way.

A few months ago, through a model, the ministry had predicted that approximately 1.5 million Jamaicans would become infected.

However, National Epidemiologist, Dr. Karen Webster Kerr says this does not refer to confirmed cases.

Additionally, she says the over 10,000 confirmed cases would not represent the actual number of infections in the country.

Even so, she’s hoping the model is wrong.
