Chief Medical Officer, CMO Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor-Mckenzie says the community transmission phase of COVID-19 in Jamaica has been met with a great deal of disappointment and a sense of failure, However the Government’s response to COVID-19 remains intense.
And even while the virus continues to run through all 14 parishes, untamed, the CMO doesn’t believe the country has failed in its management of the pandemic.
But even though the transmission of the virus can no longer be easily traced from one person to the other, Dr. Bisasor-Mckenzie doesn’t believe this is due to a failed response to the pandemic. She says the government has so far managed the crisis in three different spaces, the ports of entry being one.
While the government has to maintain protocols at the airports and in communities, its main focus at this time, is on the health care facilities, the CMO says.
Dr. Bisasor-mckenzie says this is the hardest part of managing the pandemic. And while many persons believe the government is not pulling its weight, she says its response remains intense.
