Brandon Hill Coffee Farmers in St. Andrew Stage Protest, Seeking Higher Prices for Their Beans – This morning, coffee farmers from Brandon Hill in St. Andrew initiated a protest demanding an increase in the prices offered for their coffee beans. The farmers have declared their intention not to sell any coffee to buyers until their demands are met. They argue that in recent years, coffee prices have seen a significant increase but have not surpassed the eight thousand dollar mark. They assert that this price is insufficient to cover the cost of production, particularly when considering expenses such as fertilizers, which can amount to at least eight thousand dollars.
The disgruntled farmers also highlighted various other production costs. They express a sense of injustice when comparing the prices of coffee products in supermarkets, a situation that Senator Norman Grant attributes to supply and demand dynamics. Watch the report:
