The Ministry of Transport and Mining announced the implementation of a commuter railway service operated by the Jamaica Railway Corporations on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
This is a move expected to provide safe and cost-efficient transport for students who depend on the public transportation system.
Transport Minister Robert Montague says this initial phase will cater to four hundred students (400) from six (6) schools in St. Catherine.
Minister Montague says, in efforts to protect the environment from climate change, this initiative will be crucial.
Meanwhile, Montague notes there are ongoing schemes with stakeholders to see trains operational in rural Jamaica.
