Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of the crime portfolio, Fitz Bailey, says the problem of crime in Jamaica, especially murder is a societal issue.
He says there is great concern about the age range of both the victims and perpetrators involved in a number of major crimes.
But as members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Defence Force confront criminals seemingly daily, that is not enough.
The Deputy Commissioner says for the issue of crime and violence to be fully addressed the effort must be widespread and consistent.
Meanwhile, DCP Bailey says the clear up rate for murders for 2020 is about fifty-six per cent.
This he says represents the enhanced capacity of the Police Force to investigate and solve cases.
