Concerns About Omicron Amid Face To Face Learning

With most schools now given the green light to resume face to face learning, there are still concerns regarding a possible spread of the Omicron variant.

However, one principal in rural  Jamaica says while the omicron variant may increase infections, it is imperative that schools take advantage of the face to face learning, noting  education remains a priority.

Our news team visited the William Knibb Memorial High School Tuesday and spoke with Principal Linvern Wright who says the school is still in preparation mode for the return of students to the classroom. He says students in grades 7 to 10 will be coming in for their examinations. With the Omicron variant becoming more widespread, wright says this variant is not as detrimental as delta.

He notes it’s important to make use of the opportunity for face to face learning. Meanwhile, opposition spokesperson on education Dr. Angela Brown Burke says proper infrastructure to prevent transmission need to be maintained in schools.
