The Jamaican government is under scrutiny after a third group of Haitians, who arrived on the island on Sunday, were repatriated to Haiti, a nation currently facing an ongoing war. Just hours after another group of Haitians sought refuge on Jamaican shores in Portland, they were promptly placed on a boat and sent back to their homeland. These Haitians, who have the right to legal representation, reportedly had limited communication with attorneys.
According to international human rights lawyer Malene Alleyne, she was at the gate of the property where the refugees were held and attempted to present an asylum request to the authorities, as requested by one of the 35 Haitians. However, Alleyne was denied access to the property. Watch the report:
