The government will be implementing a system to better monitor the performance of contractors. This follows recent revelations made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness who says some contractors have been underperforming on various development projects. He notes after the government consults with the procurement commission, the new policy will be announced.
Speaking at a handing over ceremony recently, Prime Minster Holness sought to highlight the issue of contractors lacking the proper training needed to carry out development projects. The prime minister also noted contractors have not been performing at an acceptable standard, doing reputational harm to the sector. He says a system will be implemented to better identifying those who flout the codes. Following consultations with the procurement commission, the government will officially announce a new policy regarding contractors.
With construction a significant aspect of Jamaica’s economic activity during the pandemic the prime minister reassured that developments are still underway.
