Crash Victim At Vernamfield Identified, Investigations Underway

Police have identified the woman who died following a crash at the Vernamfield airstrip in Clarendon on Sunday afternoon.  Mayor of May Pen Winston Maragh has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. He says no decision will be taken on the use of the venue for future events until the investigations are completed.

The victim is Twenty-five-year-old, personal assistant, Ashley Findlay Forbes. She succumbed to injuries she sustained after being mowed down by a race car shortly before 4 in the afternoon.

The Porus resident was one of four who suffered injuries when a car veered from the track and slammed into the crowd. May Pen Mayor Winston Maragh is saddened by the tragedy. He says all the safety procedures were followed.

Reports are that promoters were alerted to grease on the track sometime before the races began. The promoters, Kent Racing Limited have issued a statement refuting claims of being irresponsible in allowing the show despite the grease. They too expressed condolences to the victim’s family adding they took all the necessary measures to ensure safety. They are imploring patience as the probe continues and say they have alerted their legal team.

Mayor Maragh says the municipal corporation is awaiting the findings of the investigation, before making a decision about the venue. Watch the report here:
