Speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, Shadow Minister on Education and Training Senator Damion Crawford highlighted a number of issues plaguing the sector and provided possible solutions. With the impending school year, Members of the Opposition, the People’s National Party are calling for more focus to be placed on improving the education sector. Senator Damion Crawford made several proposals for improvements in the education system. He says the government has not been providing the necessary funding sufficient for a quality education. Adding the government must communicate with the public to explain their unrealistic financial allocations.
He laments that principals are concerned with the shortage of rental books going into the school year. Adding that between 20 and 60 per cent of students will not be able to get books that should be provided in the rental system. This book shortage varies, depending on the school, and is contributing to the education gap in the country. Senator Crawford provides suggestions to aid in the financial struggle parents face with purchasing books. Another area of concern is the sixth form pathway program, which requires a 7-year program in secondary schools.
Crawford is proposing the government focuses on the specific need of each child, and each school, to improve their learning experience. More details below:
