Crime Down By 25% In Portland

While several parishes remain under a State of Public Emergency and the Government fights to control crime, the Portland Police Division is reportedly reaping success with their crime-fighting strategies. The Head of the Portland Police Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Duane Wellington recently shared that the parish has since a twenty-five percent reduction in serious and violent crimes.

He made the disclosure at a recent parish council meeting while  sharing information and comparing 2019 and 2018 figures . He says murders are now down by 29 percent and robberies by 50. However, while these figures are on the decrease, shootings and aggravated assault have climbed.

The Senior Cop says officers are concerned about this development but have been able to apprehend several suspects who were later arrested and before the courts. He says more officers will now be deployed throughout the town during the Yuletide season to ensure that citizens are kept safe.
