Crime Stop, a partnership remunerating civilians for tips, is reporting a major increase in anonymous tips this year when compared to last year.
According to the group, the majority of these tips were in relation to wanted men, firearm recoveries and suspected gunmen in volatile communities. Since the prime minister’s speech promoting the get the illegal guns campaign, crime stop Jamaica has seen a massive increase in tips which has helped in firearm recoveries.
According to the Manager of Crime Stop Jamaica, Cherise Bruce-Douglas, since the start of the year 8 illegal firearms have been retrieved. She highlights the latest statistics for tips when compared to 2021. Of the 151 tips received last month, 47 were towards illegal firearms, 18 for wanted men and 40 for suspected gunmen. Currently for March crime stop has received 149 tips thus far. Mrs. Bruce-Douglas notes there’s been success following reports. However, she alludes to an initiative geared towards countering the ”informa fi dead” stigma.
