A 29-year-old teacher, Miguel Griffiths, otherwise called ‘Spoon’, of Knockpatrick District, Manchester, has been charged with rape of an 11-year-old girl. Custos of Manchester Garfield Green is disturbed by these incidents in the parish, specifically those done to children, who he describes as the most vulnerable groups in our society and deserving of protection from harm. He condemned the perpetrators while calling for complete background checks to be done for persons who are expected to work with children. Even after they have been cleared to work with children, he is adamant that follow-up check-ins are required.
Green adds, programs like the Manchester police values and attitudes initiative, which is practiced at his office, seek to socialize people away from less desirable behaviors. He is urging children to be mindful of who they associate with, and not to be afraid to ask for help if they encounter suspicious behaviors.
