D’Aguilar: “No Accountability and Transparency with Republic Process”

“We are going to advocate for a boycott of the referendum” sentiments shared Wednesday on CVM’s live Panel Discussion by Convenor of the People’s Anti-Corruption Movement.

Lloyd D’augilar as he shares that there are serious deficiencies in the political system, which the current constitutional reform committee in his opinion will not address. The discussion was being had around who should ideally be a part of the decision-making of Jamaica transitioning from a constitutional monarchy to a republic and critical matters that should be discussed. D’Aguilar says the high police extra-judicial killing rate and Jamaica being ranked as one of the most corrupt countries are just some of the critical issues that need to be addressed for this process

Meanwhile, advocacy officer at the Jamaica coalition for healthy society Phillipa Davies agrees with D’Aguilar while questioning minister of legal and constitutional affairs, Marlene Malahoo Forte’s position to review the 2011 charter of fundamental rights and freedom. She questions if there’s not been a revision for the past 12 years concerning deficiencies with the charter, why assess it now?

Likewise, she challenged D’Aguilar’s stance as to why some people were selected for the committee. Watch the report:
