The judicial recount for the Westmoreland Eastern has ended. Daniel Lawrence won the seat for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) by just 11 votes. He’s now the Member of Parliament elect for the constituency. The recount took place at the Westmoreland Parish court in Savanna-la-Mar on Tuesday, September 15.
The lead attorney representing Lawrence, O’neil Brown says his team is pleased with the result of a second recount. He also dismisses talk of electoral fraud or vote rigging.
Meanwhile, the lead attorney representing the People’s National Party’s (PNP’s) Luther Buchanan, Maurice McCurdy says the judicial recount was a clash between Jamaica’s legal and democratic system, adding that the people of Jamaica benefitted from it.
CVM LIVE didn’t manage to get a response from Luther Buchanan, but our news team spoke with Daniel Lawrence who says he’s ready to work.
One supporter says he’s confident Lawrence will bring about change. Meanwhile, Buchanan’s supporters aren’t taking his defeat very well.
