Over 200 primary schools across Jamaica were given the green light to resume face-to-face school on Monday, November 8. CVM Live visited several St. Catherine schools Tuesday, November 9 to gauge their reaction to the traditional learning format.
CVM Live was met with closed gates at most primary schools visited on November 9. As many of the institution’s cohorts have exceeded the 500 limit that was set by the Ministry of Education for face-to-face school.
We then journeyed to the Linstead Primary School where their doors were only open to students with internet connectivity issues. Principal Joni Tucker says that since the last school term 70 percent of students have been engaged in online learning meaning that 30 percent have been even further disadvantaged.
Mrs. Tucker notes that the school has been working diligently to support students who have not had consistent access to education. She says teachers have also had challenges with internet connectivity, hindering them from being efficient.
However, the Parents Teacher Association, (PTA) board rewards students as means of keeping them motivated. She would like to see more help from the Government. She also had a message to parents and students.
