Day 4 of Search for 68 Year-Old Beryl Walters

Family members and residents of the West Gate community in St. James continued their search for 68 year old Beryl Walters who was washed away by the fast moving waters of the Barnett River in the parish on Tuesday.

Hope faded as the body of 12 year old Jennel Walters who was also taken by the flood waters during the incident has been recovered. The family members however say they remain hopeful of finding the missing matriarch. Its day 4 and family members were out in search of 68 year old Beryl Walters who was washed away in the Barnett River in west gate St. James earlier this week with her granddaughter Jennel Walters whose body has since been recovered.

Our news team visited the location and observed a tractor and a back hoe below the river bed clearing debris in hope of finding a trace of the missing grandmother.

Though grief stricken, Christine Gilbert the mother of Jennel Walters tells CVM Live she remains positive. Nafesa Poiser daughter-in-law to Beryl Walters says the family is doing a thorough search with the resources at their disposal. She adds the family must remain resilient. Heavy rains flooded sections of the island earlier this week, Jennel and her grandmother were traveling in a Toyota Probox along with her grandfather and her aunt when the vehicle was swept away by fast moving water.

During that ordeal her Aunt and Grandfather were both rescued by the selfless and heroic actions of those on the scene.
