Debate on National Identification System (NIDS) Bill Concludes

The debate to amend the National Identification System (NIDS) Bill was concluded in parliament Wednesday, October 13, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness hinting that the NIDS is one sure way of improving the quality of life for Jamaicans. This as he notes the ease of doing business and the reduced costs expected to accompany transactions.

The Bill has been long debated and several stakeholder inputs considered. The Prime Minister Andrew Holness in concluding the debate on the controversial NIDS Bill says it is time Jamaicans enjoy smoother business transactions and a more efficient way of life.

He also argues that despite the delays in getting support for the Bill after sections of the proposed Bill were struck out as unconstitutional, the Bill remains a crucial piece of legislation. The Prime Minister says the cost of doing business would also be significantly reduced with the introduction of the new National Identification System.
