The retired cop also formally identified “City Puss,” the mystery defendant in the ongoing trial.
The nearly two hours of conversation between the now-retired police and the defendant Stephanie Christie revealed the great lengths Christie was willing to go to ensure the freedom of the reputed gang leader Andre ‘Blackman’ Bryan, who was being questioned at the Spanish Town Police Station, in relation to an upsurge in criminal activities in the Greendale area.
The retired police said she approached him saying “mi a Livity Coke baby madda… Yuh have the G and a mi man” -‘G’-referring to Bryan. The witness responded, “look at you, yuh have two a di biggest bad man dem inah Jamaica, how you manage that?”
Christie laughed while saying “mi ting up like that” She then proceeded to offer him money in exchange for the release of Bryan, “mi can give yuh $100,000 fi let him guh enuh”
When she saw that he was not taking the bait she told him to make an offer which he did, “mi a guh need two rifle” He said Christie replied, “dat a di least, when the G come out we can get that, that a di least” He told her “my girl, a serious ting mi inah enuh, mi need di gun dem and mi nuh waaan nuh old gun weh unuh nuh want, mi need krissas” – She responded, “mi swear pon mi pickney life, any how the G come out, that a nuh no problem”
The retired police explained that he neither arrested nor charged Christie in that instance because he saw an opportunity to use her as a human source in dismantling the gang. He said from then they both maintained contact, as Christie thought she could extract information from him, but he was doing the very same, which he managed to do. He misled her into identifying a member of the gang who he says was behind a trail of extortion letters and voice notes circulating in Spanish Town …
The retired police said he listened to over 25 voice notes laced with expletives and threats coming from a man who identified himself as City Puss. As well as live telephone conversations City Puss had with business owners.
Fear he says makes it impossible for people to make a formal report to the police.
Christie told him the full name of City Puss – Jason Brown. The witness says he went to the Horizon Remand Centre and charged Brown for extortion and being part of a gang.
Brown who is serving a life sentence for murder, was positively identified in court.
