Delayed And Denied: Cubans Nationals Detained For Second Time

Ten Cuban nationals, previously detained for illegally entering Jamaica, will return to court next week after being further detained following their appearance in the Trelawny Parish Court last Friday. The individuals, apprehended on the grounds of Excellence Resort in Trelawny, were remanded for the second time based on a ruling issued last Thursday by Parish Court Judge Paula Archer Hall.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Winston Milton of the Trelawny Division explains the events of December 30, when the Cubans were discovered. In their defense, they claim turbulent weather forced their vessel, initially heading north to Florida, to drift south. Initially appearing as guests at the hotel, suspicion arose when one of them requested a phone charger. The police were summoned, and the Cubans were removed from the property, and subsequently charged with illegal entry, to which they pleaded guilty.
