The longstanding garbage crisis along the roadways of the Papine Market is said to be no more, as Kingston Mayor Delroy Williams says the garbage bay built by the municipality has remedied that problem.
Mayor Williams is responding to claims of a garbage pile up along the road in the Papine Market in St. Andrew, stating the bulk of garbage seen, is being dumped in the correct spot as stipulated by the government.
Williams admits there was indeed a garbage crisis along the roads of the market which he says was caused by residents and shop owners dumping their waste on the roads.
He says a garbage bay has been created to remedy that issue. Williams says apart from rectifying the garbage situation, the municipality has done several renovations to the market, to include building a new roof and a canteen for vendors and shoppers.
However, he says the issue of water settling on the roads in the area still needs to be fixed. He says engineers are working on rectifying that issue. Meanwhile, Williams says the municipality has been making minor changes to improve the building approval process and foster transparency. This comes after the opposition caucus of the KSAMC’s building committee resigned demanding greater transparency and fairness on matters.
