Desmond McKenzie: No Permits Will Be Granted

Though the nightly curfews have come to an end, promoters have not been granted permits for this weekend. Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Desmond McKenzie says the police will be taking action over the weekend should the orders be disregarded. No permits have been granted for parties this weekend, despite the removal of the disaster risk management measures.

The minister says the existing protocols will remain. The minister notes that the procedures for promoters to be granted permits pre-pandemic are still available. However he says inspections will be carried out by the municipalities. He explains strong actions were taken in his own constituency of West Kingston to prevent any deviation from the rules.

Minister McKenzie also says burials are still not allowed on Saturdays and Sundays despite removal of DRMA restrictions.
