Head of Diaspora Crime Intervention and Prevention Task Force, Dr. Rupert Francis, is calling on Jamaicans, particularly those in the Diaspora to desist from condemning Deputy Mayor Richard Vernon over comments he made recently, likening migrants to cowards.
Dr. Francis says he believes Vernon’s statement was taken out of context. He also expressed views on the country’s teacher migration crisis after a public lashing. Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon has apologized for calling Jamaicans who opt to migrate for better opportunities, cowards. Despite this apology, many are adamant that the comment was insensitive and proves that the government does not care about the people’s plight. However, the Head of the Diaspora Crime Intervention and Prevention Task Force, Dr. Rupert Francis, says he accepts Vernon’s apology and urges diaspora members to cut him some slack.
