Diaspora Demands A Seat At Constitutional Reform Table

Members of the Jamaican Diaspora are demanding a representative on the Constitutional Reform Committee as the process to make Jamaica a Republic advance.

The reason they make significant contributions to the country and as such, should have a say in its direction.  As the winds of change sweep through our society and the push for constitutional reform gains momentum, members of the Jamaican Diaspora are calling for greater representation in the reform process.

Insisting the voice of the diaspora is essential to the conversations, members cite how, among other benefits, remittances contribute roughly 20 per cent of Jamaica’s gross domestic product, GDP: and as such, gravely impact the economy. 

Describing the omission as a mistake, Dr Doirean Wilson, professor of religion and multiculturalism, says the move will push members to invest elsewhere. Watch the report:
