Children with disabilities are now able to benefit from a grant under the Government of Jamaica Covid-19 Care Programme.
Persons over 65 are also eligible to apply for grants once registered with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) up to June 30, 2020.
Director of Public Relations and Communications at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Vando Palmer, says the decision to widen the age range comes as the quota was not fulfilled.
Palmer says successful applicants will be getting a one-off grant of ten thousand dollars.
CVM LIVE spoke to Winsome Johnson, the mother of 12-year-old- visually impaired, Allana Johnson.
She says the grant will be of some help as the COVID-19 outbreak in the country has definitely brought on rougher days.
Initially, only persons living with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 65 were listed as eligible applicants. Children and Elderly applicants have until August 22, 2020, to apply for the grant.
