The Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA) is officially discontinued. The government is being commended on the move as people sought to return to normalcy. However, CEO of Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and Private Sector Organization of Jamaica is urging people not to return to life before Covid-19.
Instead, they’re encouraging that some protocols be maintained, as Covid-19 remains a threat. After two years, lock downs, curfews and limited gatherings are no more as Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced the DRMA has officially been withdrawn. The announcement has sparked much excitement, however despite the discontinuation corporate Jamaica says it will be maintaining much of the protocols under the DRMA, as Covid-19 is still at large.
Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Larry Watson tells CVM Live the organization encourages its members to continue with Covid-19 protocols. Watson says it would be unfortunate to discard the new normal Covid introduced, hence he urges employers to retain some aspects, such as work from home. The Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) shares similar sentiments as it too, encourages members and the general public to continue following Covid-19 protocols. The government continues to mandate that persons who test positive for the virus must isolate, and recommends mask-wearing in enclosed spaces.
