Double Murder in People’s Arcade, St James

A double murder at the People’s Arcade in St James has yet again sparked suspicion as to how the victims may have spent their final moments. Suggestions are that the two may have died after what was intended to be a moment of pleasure, that ended in horror. Crime continues to plague the nation; many asserting people die because they were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well, the jury is out on those murders committed in victims’ personal spaces, their otherwise safe places. Those who were in the comfort of their homes were often heavily grilled and barricaded to keep out thugs, blood-thirsty hoodlums bent on creating death and mayhem.

So, it was when the Peoples Arcade on Howard Cooke Boulevard in the second city of Montego Bay, St James came alive with news of another tragedy early Monday morning. The victims are no strangers to the Commercial Hub, Ricardo Green, also known as brown man, a 36-year-old, egg vendor in the arcade, and 22-year-old, Vanessa Popkin, otherwise called Starry, a bartender from steer town, St. Ann.

Allegations are that at about 7 Monday morning, residents stumbled upon both persons and summoned the police. When the lawmen arrived both deceased were seen lying on their stomachs on a bed in Green’s dwelling with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to their head.

Green was clad in navy blue underpants with his hands bound behind his back with a black electrical cord. Popkin was found naked with both hands extended to the direction of her head. The bodies were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead. In what some consider one of the most humiliating ways to transition, it’s speculated the two were having private time together when criminals invaded, sending them to their death.

No motive has so far been established and the hunt continues for those responsible for the tragic end.
