Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn responded to criticism following her ruling on the matter of building and environmental breaches involving Mark Barnett and his wife. Llewellyn clarified her decision, stating that the couple cannot be prosecuted for environmental breaches due to statutory limitations. She expressed confusion about the Integrity Commission’s involvement, considering the legal constraints on the breaches. Despite the environmental ruling, the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) retains the option to pursue the Barnetts for building permit breaches. Llewellyn emphasized that the KSAMC holds authority over building breaches and dismissed concerns of negligence in handling the case.
