National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang has commended the leadership of the Police Federation and related groups for their commitment to securing a better compensation package for the crime fighters in the latest negotiations.
He admits that while there were concerns, the onus was on the government to strike a balance for the police who represent some 30 percent of public sector workers. Dr Chang admits that despite concerns the Government of Jamaica must maintain fiscal responsibility to not erode the economic gains over the period.
He insists Jamaica has to maintain balance while seeking to improve the lives of public servants. He listed several unions, and private sector players including Economic Programme Oversight Chair, Keith Duncan who proved critical to the police and finally signed off on the government’s wage offer. However, high praise was had for the executive of the Police Federation.
