National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says Trans-national Organised Crime continues to pose a significant security threat, globally. He was speaking at a high-level security conference of the Guiana Shield, in Suriname on Thursday.
Dr. Chang notes that Jamaica, other countries in the Caribbean, and members of the Guiana Shield face similar threats of organized crime coordinated across national borders. Dr. Chang said it is critical to leverage technology in disrupting organised criminal networks and points out that cybercrime is an emerging security threat coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking in his capacity as chairman of the Council for National Security and Law enforcement, Dr. Chang made several recommendations to enhance the region’s fight against transnational organised crime. To include a renewed commitment to strengthening land, air, and sea border security.
