Edmund Bartlett: Tourism Concerns Still Linger

Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett says tourism is expected to set new economic records this year despite initial concerns in the first quarter.

He’s however urging alacrity in retaining tourism workers amid continued migration of local workers. Returning to the top of the macroeconomic earning stands is tourism. The major income earner took a deep dive when the Covid -19 pandemic struck. However, the tides of change resulting in lower Covid-19 infections and relaxed public health measures have brought new life to the rest and relaxation industry. If not careful he says the speed of recovery could prove negative.

Minister Bartlett says although the first few months may have appeared slower things are projected to rebound swiftly later in the year. The minister spoke with CVM Live after a media briefing heralding the Caribbean’s first hosting of the annual international conference and exhibition set for June in Jamaica.
