Education Minister Fayval Williams responded to President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, (JTA) La Sonja Harrison’s claims, stating they have an open door policy to which all concerns can be directed. The Minister also responded to the yearly migration of teachers.
The long-awaited March 31 deadline to settle public sector wage agreements has passed and some sectors have settled with their dividends, however, Jamaica Teachers Association President cries deception as she said the wages do not comply with what is on paper.
Minister of Education Fayval Williams, provided CVM LIVE with a reaction to said claims Harrison on CVM LIVE’s Panel Discussion said the approach is designed to frustrate and de-motivate senior teachers but Williams is adamant that all unsatisfactory concerns be tabled to the appropriate party. In March teachers across the island staged several protests. To voice their dissatisfaction with the adjusted wage package.
According to 2022 data from the JTA over 400 teachers left the country to seek employment elsewhere, a gap which Williams says each year they try to fill with adequate and well-trained teachers.
